Jesus told his disciples that he came into the world to serve, not to be served. Since no servant is greater than his master, we are called to emulate the example set by our Lord, Jesus Christ. This is the mission of Fannin UMC:  to serve others in the love of Christ. We serve by joining with the Holy Spirit in ministering to those in need in the following areas:

Haiti

The United Methodist Church is a 12.3-million-strong global church that opens hearts, opens minds and open doors through active engagement with our world. Read more about the church’s mission statement.

John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as “practical divinity” has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Fannin’s Prayer Shawl Ministry began as a short-term project for a statewide United Methodist Women’s meeting about 20 years ago. The group developed such a love for knitting, quilting and crocheting that they kept making blankets and quilts long after the statewide meeting was over. Many pieces have been given through the years – some to individuals in our congregation, and some sent far away (one went to Afghanistan with a soldier). Our shawls have been given as group gifts to The Methodist Children’s Home in Clinton and a halfway house for women in Madison.

Gravy & Grace

This ministry is an offshoot of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Another local congregation serves Sunday morning breakfast and ministry to the homeless population close to their church. They started looking for ways to help this group throughout the week and discovered sleeping mats and totes made from plastic shopping bags. Our group started collecting the bags and helping to make these items as a joint effort. The product is amazingly pretty and provides a dry spot for those who may not otherwise be able to protect themselves from the damp ground.
